A damning Gemma Collins interview has resurfaced in the wake of Matt Doran’s awkward meeting with Adele

Channel 7 reporter Doran was suspended for two weeks after conceding during an interview with singer Adele that he hadn’t listened to her latest album, 30.

The Weekend Sunrise host flew to London on November 4 for the exclusive interview with the 33-year-old musician, but reportedly offended her when he confessed he hadn’t heard her latest material.

Doran, according to sources, didn’t ask any questions about the new music, and when Adele asked, “What do you think of my album?” he replied: “I haven’t listened to it”, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Sony subsequently banned the network from using the interview, which had been organised as part of a reported $1 million deal which included local rights to air the singer’s recent One Night Only concert special.

Doran later told The Australian he missed the email containing the album, claiming he was unaware it had been sent to him.

He called it “the most important email I have ever missed,” and said he was “mortified and unequivocally apologetic”.

Diva has mid-interview meltdown

In the wake of the fallout, eyes have been drawn to other instances of journalists seemingly fronting up to interviews having not consumed what the talent was there to promote.

One example was an interview with The Only Way Is Essex star, Gemma Collins, who ended the chat early after learning Now magazine reporter Hayley Minn had not read her new book, The GC: How To Be A Diva.

Minn however, had not been sent an early copy of the book, which Collins had previously claimed would be “bigger than the Bible”.

Now in 2018 went ahead with publishing the interview preceded by comments from Minn detailing her surprise that Collins was unwilling to discuss what was in her book.

“Despite the fact that we haven’t been sent a copy of the book (which hasn’t yet been released), Gemma isn’t impressed to learn we haven’t read it,” Minn wrote.

“And she can’t seem to grasp the concept that it’s a book supposedly about her, written by her, meaning she should be able to talk for hours about it.”

The full interview was published as the discussion unfolded, with Collins asking Minn, “Have you read it, hun?” before Minn replied, “No I haven’t, I’m afraid”.

“OK, so you’re doing this interview without having done any research or read the book or anything?” Collins snapped back.

In another question, Minn asked Collins what the best advice was she had in the book, but again, she was met with a rather hostile response.

“If you read it, you would know, so … I think wait until you get a copy and then you’ll be able to embrace the book. It’s hard to do an interview if you haven’t done any research on the book or been sent it,” Collins said.

“I’m going to get them to send you the book and then maybe we’ll do this another time. Because we’re meant to be doing an interview on the book, but you haven’t got the book in front of you, so you don’t know what it’s about.”

After a PR’s failed attempt to get the interview back on track, Collins opted to call it quits.

“OK so this was meant to be about the book. Basically any of the interviews have to be about the book, anything else isn’t relevant,” she said.

“Darling, don’t worry, we’re going to get the book publishers to send everyone doing an interview the book. Thank you, bye!”

The double-page spread was at the time shared widely across social media, and has once again attracted attention on Twitter this week.

Three years on from the ordeal, Minn has confirmed she still has yet to read the book.
