Ryan Seacrest trolled over ‘Wheel of Fortune’ gig: ‘Give somebody else a chance’
Ryan Seacrest is a man of many jobs — too many jobs, according to some trolls on social media.
The 48-year-old accomplished TV personality is adding “Wheel of Fortune” to his impressive resume, as he announced Tuesday that he will replace longtime host Pat Sajak, 76, when he retires next year.
Seacrest holds several coveted jobs in Hollywood as the host of “American Idol” and his syndicated KIIS-FM radio show “On Air with Ryan Seacrest,” and Dick Clark’s replacement on ABC’s “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”
Seacrest recently ended his six-year run as Kelly Ripa’s counterpart on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” apparently freeing up some time in his schedule to take on one of television’s most beloved game shows.
The “Wheel” gig reportedly comes with a $28 million salary too, which would make Seacrest the highest-paid talent on TV.
While one of Seacrest’s Instagram fans argued he is the “perfect replacement” for Sajak, fans over on Twitter voiced different opinions.
“Wrong choice. Not fair to @TheVannaWhite,” one fan said in defense of longtime “Wheel” letter-turner Vanna White, who many fans claimed is most deserving of filling Sajak’s shoes.
“Should’ve moved Vanna White to host and had Ryan Seacrest turning letters. Prove me wrong,” another jeered.
Other social media users believe the workaholic Seacrest needs to spread the wealth to other hopefuls.
Whoopi Goldberg, Stephen A. Smith, and even Seacrest’s NYE rival, Andy Cohen, all publicly expressed interest in the “Wheel” gig.
“How many jobs do u need ?” one fan asked Seacrest.
“I like Ryan, but he’s had plenty of hosting gigs before. I was hoping they would give somebody else a chance. Plus, he’s on iHeart stations too. I don’t know if his other gigs will interfere with this one or not,” another wondered.
“Wrong person & you know it,” someone else slammed the producers.
The Post has contacted reps for Seacrest for comment.
Meanwhile, hundreds of fans shared their excitement for Seacrest.
As one put it: “Ryan Seacrest is the master of staying relevant in the 65+ age demographic. This is a perfect fit.”
“Hmmm…..My gut reaction isn’t ‘Oh God, no no no’ so that is a good thing,” another warmed up to the idea. “I think Ryan has a good chance of maintaining the style & tradition that Pat set for Wheel. So congrats Ryan!!!”
Seacrest will become the host of “Wheel” in 2024. Sajak joined the show in 1981.
