Rare sneaker spotted in Roxy Jacenko’s closet
Roxy Jacenko has wowed fans after showing off her impressive sneaker wall – filled with almost $20,000 of rare kicks.
The PR mogul, 42, gave her 264,000 followers a glimpse inside her luxury wardrobe, revealing an array of “hype” sneakers – a new term that describes trainers “everyone wants to buy” – she told news.com.au was worth $18,600.
Spotted among Roxy’s rare footwear collection were classic Nike Jordans, sold-out Yeezy’s as well as New Balance trainers and iconic Nike Dunks.
The most expensive pair of shoes on display were the Adidas Yeezy Boost 700 Wave Runners which are currently reselling for $750, almost double the original price of $380.
Alongside the snaps Roxy shared, she wrote: “It’s no secret that my sneaker collection is ermmmmm big and yep that’s my trainer wall – I’ve never really been understated LOL.”
She then went on to explain she had purchased many of her kicks from Australian retailer Waves which was launched in 2018 by Sydney couple George Kozma and wife Olivia.
Despite a humble start packing orders in their spare room, the pair are now earning $250,000 a week, netting $10m in sales in 2021.
“It’s beyond our wildest dreams that we are selling close to 500 pairs of sneakers a week,” Olivia told news.com.au.
“It’s the best feeling to do something we love and see people so happy with their purchases. It is a priceless feeling.”
The mum-of-two said the business was born out of their love of “hype” shoes, which started when George bought a pair of Adidas NMD shoes in 2015.
His collection quickly grew, and by 2017, Olivia was also a fan – spending $1500 on a pair of Yeezy Boost’s in a rare zebra print.
“In 2017 I was collecting and selling sneakers to fund my obsession, at one stage I had close to 200 pairs,” George said.
“I saw something special when I had so many people around me getting scammed with fakes.
“But we had no idea we would be where are today. We’ve gone from packing 5 orders a day in a room in our home to be processing 100-150 orders a day in 500 sqm warehouse.”
The most popular pair of sneakers sold on the site are the Nike dunk Jordan’s and Yeezy 350 as well as the slides, with George revealing “we sell close too easy 100 pairs a day both brands combined”.
Roxy isn’t the only fan of Waves, with TikTok megastar Anna Paul and an endless string of influencers also regularly raving about the sneakers.
George, a former security guard, previously told news.com.au the brand exploded as a result of the pandemic, when shopping habits were forced to go online.
“At the start of 2020 we just thought, ‘What’s going on here?’” he explained.
“It was just crazy. People’s only option to buy was an online store. While they were in lockdown they wanted something exciting.
“We had a massive, huge, huge jump.”
As a result George quit his job and Olivia closed down her laser hair removal business in order to work on the company full-time.
The couple now have 15 full-time staff who buy products and pack orders in their warehouse. They’re hoping to open their first retail space before the end of the year.
