Chelsea Mbappe bid ‘expected’ by PSG as French giants ready to sell for £87m
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly expecting to open negotiations with interested clubs over Kylian Mbappe next week after putting the forward ‘up for sale’ – and they’re anticipating an offer from Chelsea. The forward has continuously reiterated that he intends on remaining at the Parc des Princes next season, though he could be forced out of the door if an acceptable bid arrives.
Todd Boehly has made it no secret that he is keen to make a marquee signing at Chelsea, and the perfect opportunity may have presented itself to the American businessman. Following the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, Mbappe could be the next new new player through the door at Stamford Bridge.
According to The Times, the Blues have made initial inquiries into the availability of the ex-Monaco star and PSG expect Mauricio Pochettino’s side to submit a concrete offer soon. The Ligue 1 outfit are looking to field bids for their No 7 next week, with numerous clubs alerted to his situation.
Several Saudi Arabian clubs hold a firm interest in Mbappe and acquiring his services would be a major coup, but they may face a difficult task in persuading the forward to head to the Middle East given his preference to remain in Europe.
PSG are not willing to allow Mbappe to run down his contract with the club this summer and are therefore open to selling to any interested club. They have placed an £87million price tag on the 24-year-old. Given that the versatile forward is largely regarded as a Ballon d’Or winner in waiting, it is hoped that the reasonable – in the current market – valuation will lure clubs into a bidding war.
Real Madrid have been desperate to sign Mbappe for years and there is a growing feeling that the forward intends on finally heading to the Santiago Bernabeu when he is a free agent next summer.
Chelsea are in the market for an attacking recruit this summer, with another winger high on Pochettino’s shopping list. Lyon star Rayan Cherki has been highlighted as a target, but he may no longer be available due to other sales, whilst Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus is also firmly on the shortlist and is said to be close to agreeing personal terms with the Blues.
However, the chance to sign Mbappe may be a once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity for Chelsea and, if they have the finances available, it appears that they are not willing to let the moment pass without putting up a challenge.
