I was offered 75 per cent off my cruise holiday – but it came with a big catch
A WOMAN has revealed how she was offered 75 per cent off her cruise as well as extra money off her next holiday.
However, it came with a big catch – and divided opinion over whether she should take it.
TikTok user Janna had booked a trip on the Ruby Princess cruise ship.
However, the cruise ship suffered damage on the trip before hers after it crashed into a dock.
Janna boarded on Thursday, only to be told the next day that the cruise was not able to leave until Sunday due to the damage.
Not only that, but the 10-day Alaska cruise had been shortened to seven days and was not visiting all of the same spots.
The ship, which was docked in San Franciso had to repair the large hole, leaving passengers to explore the area.
She said: “I’m a passenger onboard the damaged Ruby Princess cruise.
She added: “No Glacier Bay, no Sitka Alaska, no Juneau Alaska – but we’re still going to Ketchikan and Prince Rupert.”
However, Janna said passengers were given options about their holiday.
This included carrying on with the cruise, given a 75 per cent refund and 75 per cent credit on their next cruise.
Or, they could cancel their cruise and leave the ship, getting a full refund and 50 per cent towards another cruise.
She admitted that if you took the latter, you still got a free day in San Franciso and a free night on the boat.
Janna said she wasn’t sure what to take – and people on TikTok were divided.
The majority of people said she should stay onboard, with one person writing: “If you think it’s safe, 100 per cent stay that’s some good choices.”
Another agreed: “Such wonderful choices! I would enjoy the cruise and book another in the future.”
However, others didn’t agree.
One said: “Leave, I would go nuts thinking that the ship is not safe.”
Another person commented: “I think I’d be going home and rebooking on an undamaged ship.”
According to the Princess Cruises website, a 10-day trip around Alaska from San Franciso starts from £1,499 per person.
If Janna took the 75 per cent discount, this meant she would pay just £375 for the trip instead.
Not only that, but she could save more than £1,000 on another cruise holiday as well with the 75 per cent discount.
Jenna later said she decided to stay on the cruise and even asked for a room upgrade – and were given a mini-suite with a balcony and full bathtub.
Princess Cruises is also launching a brand new ship next year.
The Sun Princess will have the cruise’s first-ever geodesic dome, an entertainment hub inspired by the terraces in Santorini.
Spread across 21 decks, the ship has more than 29 dining options, including the Piazza which spans three storeys and has cocktails bars and a pizzeria.
Inaugural spring and summer sailings will begin around the Mediterranean before the ship moves to the Caribbean in autumn 2024.
A ten-night Grand Mediterranean voyage costs from £1,789pp, departing February 28, 2024.
