22 Kids and Counting star Sue Redford has said she is ‘so incredibly proud’ of her son Luke after he came out as gay.

The 21-year-old, who will be familiar to fans of the Channel 5 show, opens up about his sexuality in a new episode of the reality series – and his family couldn’t be happier for him.

Sue says she is ‘so incredibly proud’ of Luke, telling The Sun: ‘It is an emotional and strong episode, but I think it will help others going through the same thing with their parents.

‘When he told me, I told him I already knew. As a mum you just know, but you can’t force them to come out. I am very proud of him for doing this.’

Luke has spoken candidly about his sexuality both on the show and on social media.

He shared pictures of himself at his first ever Pride event in August, holding a rainbow flag with the caption: ‘Born this way.’

Luke came out as bisexual in a post on Instagram last year, writing: ‘At the age of 20 I fully come to terms with who I am. I’m bisexual. That’s me. My core. The part that makes my function the way I do.’

‘This post will help me push myself to be more comfortable with who I am and hopefully get me to where I need to go mentally.’

He added: ‘To all those who support us I can’t thank you enough and to all those who look down on us, I wish your ignorance clears soon.’

It comes after the Radfords, who are officially Britain’s biggest family, returned with another series of 22 Kids and Counting but vowed not to have any more children.

Noel, 50, and Sue, 46, have 22 children, seven grandchildren and four dogs, and while they promised their brood is finished at the large number, their kids are not so sure.

22 Kids and Counting airs on Channel 5.
